New Delhi: A 22-year-old man was stabbed to death, and two of his relatives were injured during an altercation in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri early Thursday. Two people have been apprehended in connection with the incident.The deceased, Jay Singh, was a resident of Kalyanpuri. Police said the incident took place on the road between 11 and 15 Blocks, around 12.46 am.A police team reached the spot and found that Singh was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Two of Singh’s relatives, who also sustained injuries, were taken for medical treatment.Speaking to reporters, a relative of Singh claimed that an argument had ensued between two groups and he had been called to intervene and resolve the matter. She added that Singh is survived by his wife and 10-day-old child.A police inquiry revealed that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement during an ongoing function. “A group of transgender people had come in at the function. An argument had ensued between the family and the group which later on escalated into a scuffle. During this, one trans person was slapped, which led to further escalation,” said a senior police officer.Singh’s last rites were also reportedly conducted amid tight security, with Delhi Police personnel deployed in the area to prevent any further confrontation. A case has been registered at Kalyanpuri police station. Police have seized the knife used in the offence. The two apprehended accused and others who were present at the function are being questioned.
