New Delhi: Master Plan for Delhi 2047 remains silent on 351 roads awaiting notification as mixed-use and commercial streets, leaving traders worried.A proposal was passed and forwarded to Delhi govt by MCD in 2007, but the clearance and notification remain pending. Under MPD 2047, mixed-use and commercial streets already notified by Delhi govt will continue with permitted activities. However, no such new road will be notified. The plan also permits mixed-use development along roads with a right of way of 30 metres or more, allowing commercial activities on the ground or first lower floor in buildings with stilt parking.Under MPD 2021, 2,538 roads and streets were notified for mixed-use and commercial activities. In 2018, amid political pressure and a sealing drive, Delhi govt submitted a draft notification to lieutenant governor. However, the final notification remains pending amid court and statutory oversight.D Thara, secretary of the capital development department under MoHUA, said a holistic approach would be adopted to address the notification issue. “The minister has given us two months Since the issue was before the high court and Supreme Court-appointed committee and MCD later identified additional streets, we need to take all these aspects into consideration.”Several commercial establishments have since come up along these roads, where traders are worried about sealing because the roads have not been formally declared permissible for mixed-land use. “Govt must clarify the statusof these roads and when they will be notified,” said Nitin Gupta, president of Kamla Nagar Traders Association.Rajendra Kapoor, senior vice-president of Delhi Vyapar Mahasangh, said the omission of any clear provision for regularising these roads in MPD 2047 had worried traders. He said the long-pending issue should not be left ambiguous in Delhi’s future planning framework.
