T’puram: Anchalummoodu police arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a14-year-old girl on the false promise of marriage, leaving her pregnant. The accused was identified as Adithyan, of Anchalumoodu in Kollam.The case came to light after the girl, who had been experiencing physical discomfort, was taken for a medical examination. The tests revealed that she was pregnant, and further examination confirmed that she had been subjected to repeated sexual assault over several months.According to police, the sequence of incidents began in Dec 2025, when Adithyan called the girl to his house and sexually assaulted her after promising to marry her. Police also revealed that the accused continued to assault her on multiple occasions in Jan and March, using threats and inducements to keep her silent and compliant.Later, the incident left the survivor under severe mental and physical strain. It was only after her condition worsened that the matter came to light, following which she approached Childline authorities and local police with a formal complaint. Acting on complaint, police registered a case against the accused under provisions of Pocso Act as well as relevant sections pertaining to rape.Once the case was registered, the accused attempted to flee the place to evade arrest. However, police swiftly tracked his movements and apprehended him.Adithyan was subsequently produced before a local court, which remanded him in judicial custody. Police said further investigation into the case, including the circumstances of the assaults and the extent of the accused’s actions, is currently under way.
