Varanasi: At least 200 filled LPG commercial cylinders were found stocked during a raid conducted by Cantt police in a building behind a closed petrol pump in Ghausabad Chowkaghat area late on Sunday night.ACP, Cantt, Apoorv Pandey said that during initial investigation it came to light that the cylinders belonged to Sunrise Gas Agency located at Adalhat in Mirzapur. The police immediately alerted officials of the civil supply department and further investigation was on, the ACP added.District supply officer Krishna Ballabh Singh said on Monday that officials from the concerned petroleum company have been tasked with gathering details from the agency about why the commercial cylinders were sent to Varanasi instead of being stored in its godown. He added that further action against the distributor and hoarders would be decided once the information is collected.Earlier, around 10 pm, the Cantt police received inputs regarding stocking of cylinders in big numbers in a house behind a closed petrol pump in the Chaukaghat area. When the cops raided the place, 200 filled commercial cylinders were found there. Preliminary investigation hinted that the cylinders were illegally stored and supplied to hotels and restaurants in the city at inflated prices.
