Vasai: A 20-year-old man died due to electrocution on Friday afternoon, after he along with three others, were moving a hotel’s name board. The other three were not affected, but the 20-year-old, Abhay Tiwari, was declared dead on arrival when he was taken to a Mira road hospital. Naigaon police reached the spot and registered an accidental death report and are checking if the hotel had valid permissions. On Friday afternoon, four staffers of Girnar Hotel located in Naigaon on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway, were assigned the task of shifting the hotel name board, which was close to the main carriageway of NH48. The name board, around 12 to 13 feet, had wheels at the base, and instead of pushing the name board, the four staffers picked it up. The name board got in the way of power cable lines which were hanging right above, electrocuting all four of them, who were thrown onto the ground as a result.“The VVCMC encroachment drive was in process in the nearby area and they may have decided to move the name board to avoid any penalty”, said police from the Naigaon police station, further stating that they are still investigating the actual circumstance that led to the shifting of the name board. “We have written to the corporation seeking details about permissions this hotel had, post which we will take further necessary actions,” he added.
