Dimapur: Nagaland’s power department has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tvaksas Renewable Pvt Ltd to set up a 20-MW solar power plant at Tizit in Mon district.The agreement was signed at Nagaland Civil Secretariat conference hall on Thursday, according to a release issued on Friday.Chief engineer (T&G) Nitovi A Wotsa said the state’s current peak power demand was 203 MW and was expected to rise to 482 MW by 2034–35.Accordingly, he said, the state govt had drawn up plans to enhance its generation capacity to meet the projected demand.He said, in addition to developing generation projects through state-owned resources, the govt was encouraging private-sector participation to promote local generation and augment available capacity.The 20-MW solar project will be developed by Tvaksas Renewable Pvt Ltd and is proposed to be set up at Lapa Lampong village.The project is expected to augment Nagaland’s renewable-energy generation capacity and help the state meet its renewable-consumption obligations.Nagaland govt has signed a 25-year PPA with Tvaksas Renewable Pvt Ltd for what the release described as the state’s first private solar independent power producer project at Tizit.The Phase I project, with a capacity of 20 MW, is expected to be commissioned within 20 months and supply power at a fixed tariff of Rs 4.12 per kWh, approved by Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission.The initiative is expected to generate employment and strengthen grid reliability in the remote Mon region.Tvaksas Renewable plans to scale up the project to 100 MW in phases, bringing long-term investment, skill development and climate-finance opportunities to Nagaland.Tvaksas Renewable director Bhakti Dave said the 20-MW solar project at Tizit would create opportunities for local employment and youth jobs while signalling investment opportunities for other industrialists in Nagaland.She said the 25-year PPA would ensure predictable electricity costs and long-term savings for the state.
