Kanpur: In a dramatic rescue, a two-year-old girl, kidnapped from Kanpur Central station on Monday night, was rescued from a Delhi-bound Holi special train in Tundla after hours-long operation. The accused kept moving between coaches to evade police, but was eventually tracked down.Seeta (2) was snatched from Kanpur Central station’s foot overbridge late Monday while her mother, Chanda Pandey, slept alongside her kids, Pankaj (6) and Seeta. Accused Raju Dheemar from Jalaun allegedly took Seeta as she slept. Chanda had fled to Bihar from Kanpur Dehat with her kids 10 days ago after a spat with husband, Rajesh. She returned to Kanpur Central by train with the kids in tow. Before heading to Kanpur Dehat, she slept on the foot overbridge.The GRP and RPF swung into action, forming teams led by Om Narayan Singh and SN Patidar. After scouring 100 CCTV cameras, they spotted the accused boarding the Delhi-bound train with the girl wrapped in a sheet. Alerts went out from Etawah to Aligarh. The train left Etawah at 10 pm, but the accused kept switching coaches, evading detection at Shikohabad. Finally, at Tundla, seven teams swooped in, finding Raju with Seeta in the general coach.RPF assistant security commissioner Vivek Verma said the girl was safely recovered with the kidnapper at Tundla. Raju revealed he kidnapped Seeta to fund his drug habit. He had arranged to sell her to a Delhi beggar for Rs 20,000. Police are now digging into Raju’s past crimes.
