Rewari: Two youngsters were killed while another was critically injured when a group of assailants allegedly attacked them with sticks and sharp-edged weapons on the outskirts of Rewari city on Friday.According to police and eyewitness accounts, the assailants first rammed into the motorcycle-borne youths near Gokalpur. Once the youths were brought down, the three were attacked with sticks, wooden clubs and sharp-edged weapons. Two youngsters died on the spot, while the third was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.SHO, Rewari Sadar, Rakesh Kumar said the attack took place around 11 am. According to an eyewitness, the confrontation between the two groups first started near the main gate of Indira Gandhi University (IGU). Afterwards, members of one group arrived in a convoy of six or seven motorcycles and two cars and intercepted the bikers at a spot about 3 km away.Witnesses claimed several of the motorcycles had their number plates covered with tape. After the attack, the assailants fled the scene and were seen driving toward Khambhawas.The victims include 22-year-old Jatin, a resident of Mandai, and 20-year-old Himesh, from Nighaniawas.Jatin was married and had a young daughter. He worked for a private company in Rewari and had left home, saying that he was going to the office. Himesh was a student at Kishan Lal Public College.The injured youth has been identified as Yashpal, a resident of Budhana village.A forensic team collected samples from the crime scene, and police sent the bodies for post-mortem.Rewari SP Hemendra Kumar Meena said three police teams were set up to investigate the case and arrest the accused. Six or seven suspects have been identified, and efforts are underway to arrest them, he added.Police are scanning CCTV footage from surrounding areas to trace the assailants. “We will ensure that the accused are arrested at the earliest,” the SP said.Investigators are trying to establish how a dispute in front of IGU escalated into the deadly attack.
