Kanpur: Two workers died after a fire broke out in a fuel tank during loading at a factory in Jariha village, Kanpur Dehat, on Monday evening. Six workers were inside the factory when the fire started, while the others were evacuated.The fire rapidly engulfed the upper portion of the tank, with flames and thick black smoke visible from about 2km away. Several fire tenders and police teams from two police stations reached the factory under Gajner police station.Some workers were taken to hospital by ambulance, while police sent the two bodies for postmortem examination.Chief fire officer Prateek Srivastava said one of the factory’s two fuel tanks was burning. Firefighters cooled the adjacent tank and sprayed foam to extinguish the blaze, bringing it under control in about half an hour. The tank was subsequently cooled with water spray.SP Shraddha Narendra Pandey, ASP Alok Prasad and CO Sanjay Singh visited the site. Pandey said the factory owner was being questioned and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
