Gurgaon: Two men wanted in theft cases were shot in the leg during a police encounter on Agra Canal Road in the Kheri Pul police station area Tuesday night after they allegedly opened fire, police said.The injured accused have been identified as Sonu and Rahul, both residents of Mohan Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Delhi. They were taken to Civil Hospital Faridabad for treatment, where their condition was stated to be normal.The assistant commissioner of police, crime-2, Varun Kumar Dahiya, said that the police had received information that two men wanted in theft cases in Faridabad were planning another criminal incident. Acting on the information, two police teams set up a check post on Agra Canal Road.According to police, the two men arrived on a motorcycle and tried to flee after spotting the police team. When the cops chased them, the accused allegedly opened fire, firing around five to six rounds at the police personnel.Police then opened fire in retaliation, hitting both men in the legs, following which they were apprehended and taken to hospital.They found one pistol, a country-made pistol, two cartridges and a motorcycle from the spot.The two accused, police said, have criminal records. “Around 26 cases, including robbery and house thefts, are registered against Sonu in Delhi, while around 11 criminal cases are registered against Rahul,” ACP said.Both men are also wanted in theft cases registered in Old Faridabad and Sector-31 police station areas.Police said the breakthrough came after their alleged associate Shivam, also a resident of Mohan Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Delhi, was arrested on Sept 15. During questioning, police said, Shivam disclosed the involvement of Sonu and Rahul in the theft.Police said the two injured accused will be questioned after treatment and are expected to provide details about theft cases in Faridabad and other places.Police have registered an attempt to murder case against both the accused for allegedly firing at the cops.
