NEW DELHI: Police are probing the killing of a 31-year-old HR professional who went to Gurgaon on September 6 to meet his former colleague Anya Vats, was shot twice inside his own car and his body was kept in the vehicle for at least seven hours before being dumped in a drain, while the accused fled to Uttarakhand.Police have arrested Anya Vats and her partner Sanyam Sachdeva, both from Gurgaon, in connection with the alleged murder and produced in court, which sent them to five days’ police custody.Family lost contact after Gurgaon meetingYuvraj had gone to a restaurant in Lajpat Nagar around 4pm on September 6. His family said he had gone shopping with his sisters before visiting the restaurant. He later told them he had a meeting in Gurgaon and asked his sisters to take a cab home before leaving.According to the complaint, the family spoke to Yuvraj around 7pm, when he said he would return home by 10pm. His phone then appeared to be switched off and the family could not reach him.His sister approached Lajpat Nagar police on September 11, following which a missing-person FIR was registered.Call records, CCTV led police to AnyaInvestigators analysed call detail records, internet protocol data and CCTV footage and found that Yuvraj had last spoken to Anya. He had also told his family that he was going to Gurgaon to meet her.Both Yuvraj’s and Anya’s phones were switched off, prompting investigators to track Anya’s movements. She subsequently emerged as a prime suspect.Investigators later detected a new mobile number allegedly being used by Anya. Technical surveillance indicated that she was in Uttarakhand. A police team was sent there, where Anya and Sanyam were apprehended.Police said the two disclosed their involvement in the murder and told investigators that they had thrown Yuvraj’s body into a drain near their house in Gurgaon.Body recovered from Gurgaon drainThe disclosure led investigators to Badshahpur police station in Gurgaon, where an unidentified body was found in a drain on September 10. The body was badly decomposed.Police showed photographs of the body to Yuvraj’s family, who identified him.Police suspect a financial dispute to be behind the killing. Anya had worked with Yuvraj in 2022 at another prominent real estate developer’s office and was currently unemployed. Police said she was sacked from the company and that some financial irregularities may have been the reason for her termination, though this is being verified. Sanyam was also unemployed.Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing, the alleged financial dispute, the exact roles of the accused and other aspects of the case, besides collecting forensic and technical evidence.
