Kanpur: Two youths returning from a friend’s wedding died in a road accident after an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle on the Hardoi–Unnao road in the wee hours of Wednesday.The deceased were identified as Akhilesh (19) and Shubham (20).Police said the accident took place around 3 am near Gahauli Mod. The driver of the unidentified vehicle fled the spot after the collision.According to police, the impact of the collision was so severe that the motorcycle broke through a roadside culvert and fell into a 20-foot-deep drain after being hit.Following the accident, both youths lay injured in the drain for nearly two hours. Around 5 am, a passerby noticed the youths lying injured and informed the police.The cops reached the spot after receiving the information and rushed them to a hospital, where both were declared dead. The police took the motorcycle into custody and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.Safipur Kotwali SHO Sandeep Mishra said an investigation was underway to identify the vehicle and its driver.
