Amravati: Two persons were killed and six others injured in a road accident near Lavada village, about 15 km from Dharni, on Amravati-Burhanpur highway on Tuesday morning.According to reports, the accident took place around 6 am near a bridge at Alai. According to the information, a pickup vehicle was carrying farm labourers. When the vehicle reached near the bridge, about 15 kms from Dharni, it fell off the bridge after the driver failed to navigate debris left on the road due to a storm the previous night. The impact of the accident was so such that Malti Mitharam Bhilavekar (18) and Samay Chunnilal Sawalkar (45), both residents of Lavada village, died on the spot while 6 others including driver Ram Kolhe and five other women labourers sustained severe injuries. The injured were rushed to the Sub-District Hospital in Dharni with the help of the Kolhe family and a government ambulance. The driver, Ram Kolhe (32), and Chandni Jambekar (19) sustained serious injuries and were referred to Amravati for advanced treatment. Later reports indicated that Ram Kolhe has been shifted to Nagpur due to the severity of his condition. Police officers from Dharni Police Station have registered a case and initiated further investigation. Local leaders, including Kevalram Kale, MLA and Prabhudas Bhilavekar, BJP district president (Melghat) and former MLA, visited the injured at Dharni Sub-District Hospital and inquired about their condition.
