Madhubani: A jawan of Sashastra Seema Bal’s (SSB) 48th battalion in Jaynagar was injured in a stone pelting by villagers after the security forces stopped four people from crossing over to neighbouring Nepal through agricultural fields, an undesignated route, at Simrari outpost under Basopatti police station in the district. Some villagers reportedly attempted to snatch weapons from the jawans, prompting the security forces to fire warning shots in the air, during which one person sustained gunshot injuries. The villager was taken to a nearby hospital, and is stable. The injured jawan was admitted to a hospital in Darbhanga.One person has been arrested in connection with the incident, said superintendent of police Yogendra Kumar. Authorities are currently examining CCTV camera footage to identify other individuals involved in the incident, with more arrests expected, he added.Earlier, the SSB jawans on duty intercepted the group, requesting them to follow the official path for mandatory checks but the individuals began arguing, leading to a heated confrontation. The altercation drew a crowd of local residents from nearby Mahinathpur village, who allegedly began pelting the SSB personnel with stones, injuring one of them.Senior officers from the 48th battalion of the SSB, Jaynagar, along with the local police, arrived at the scene, and brought the situation under control. Officers have urged residents to adhere to the designated routes for cross-border movement to avoid such confrontations.
