Patna: A scrap dealer was shot dead outside his shop at Majhaulia locality under Sadar police station in Muzaffarpur district on Wednesday over an alleged land dispute. According to police, unidentified assailants approached Mohd Gulab (32), who was sitting outside his shop after closing it, and shot him in head before fleeing the scene. Local residents rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.His enraged family members took the body to National Highway-28, where they staged a protest, besides setting afire two vehicles parked outside the alleged perpetrator’s house.Town-II subdivisional police officer Vinita Sinha, Sadar police station chief Ashmit Kumar and Ahiyapur chief Rohan Kumar arrived there with a police force. They had to use force to disperse the protesters when the situation began to escalate.Sinha said an empty bullet shell was recovered from the crime scene. “We are examining CCTV camera footage from the area. It appears that Gulab was shot dead in a land dispute with a neighbour. The family claimed there were previous incidents of harassment and violence, including an altercation just two days before the murder,” she said.The victim’s brother, Raja, said he received a phone call about the shooting. “When I reached the spot, I found Gulab with a bullet wound to his head. No one saw the criminals,” he said, accusing four people — Mohd Tufail, Mohd Badal, Mohd Aqeel and Mohd Chhotu — of the murder, citing an ongoing land dispute as the motive.
