Patna: Two para-athletes from Bihar have been selected for the Indian Para Sports Team for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games beginning July 23. The athletes are Jhandu Kumar of Nalanda (para-powerlifting) and Soman Rana of Gaya (para-athletics).Para Sports Association of Bihar secretary Sandeep Kumar said it is the first time the state’s para-athletes will represent India at such a major international event, calling it a sign of improving infrastructure and a stronger environment for para-sports in Bihar.He also credited Raveendran Sankaran, DG-cum-CEO of the Bihar State Sports Authority, for expanding opportunities that have helped athletes succeed at national and international levels.Expressing happiness over this achievement, Para Sports Association of Bihar secretary Sandeep Kumar said, “For the first time in history, the state’s para-athletes have received the opportunity to represent India at such a major international sporting event. This is not merely an individual success for the athletes but also an indication of the steadily strengthening infrastructure and growing sporting environment for para-sports in Bihar.”Sandeep credited Bihar’s transformation in the sports ecosystem to Raveendran Sankaran, the Bihar State Sports Authority DG-cum-CEO, for providing athletes opportunities to achieve success at the national and international levels.
