Patna: The bodies of a woman and her two minor daughters were recovered from the Dhawa river near Arathua Engineering College under Kasma police station in Aurangabad district on Wednesday morning.Acting on information from villagers, Rafiganj police retrieved the bodies and sent them to Aurangabad Sadar hospital for post-mortem. The deceased were identified as Sonia Devi (30), wife of Tunnu Ramani of Arathua village, and her daughters, Rani Kumari (4) and Suhani Kumari (3).Police said Sonia had an argument with her husband on Tuesday night. Villagers also indicated that the family had been facing tension for a long time. It is suspected that the woman left home late at night with her daughters and jumped into the river.Villagers on a morning walk spotted the bodies floating and alerted police, following which a large crowd gathered at the spot. Kasma police, along with administrative officials and the Rafiganj circle officer, reached the spot and began an inquiry.Kasma SHO Akshwar Singh said, “It appears the woman threw her children into the river before jumping herself. The bodies have been sent to Sadar hospital for post-mortem. Preliminary investigation and villagers’ statements suggest the husband frequently fought with her under the influence of alcohol.”He added that the husband fled the village after the recovery of the bodies, and raids are on to nab him. The exact cause of the dispute will be known after he is taken into custody.
