Gurgaon: Police arrested a 23-year-old man, identified as Rohit Yadav of Sanjay Gram Colony in Sector 13, two days after his Mahindra Thar allegedly rammed into a car near Sohna Chowk, seriously injuring four members of a family. The Thar has been seized for forensic examination.According to police, the accident took place around 4.40am on July 17, a few metres from the police commissioner’s office. The family — Meenakshi Chadha, 45, her son Divyansh Chadha, 19, daughter Lakshita Chadha, 23, and relative Yashika Chadha, 22 — had set out for a drive.Meenakshi was driving the Baleno. As the car turned from Shivaji Nagar Road towards Rajiv Chowk, the Thar coming from the Rajiv Chowk side at high speed, allegedly struck it head-on.The impact threw the Baleno onto the road divider and deployed its airbags, while the Thar overturned near the traffic police beat box. Divyansh and Yashika sustained critical injuries while Meenakshi and Lakshita were also hurt. The family was pulled from the mangled car by traffic constable Nitish and home guards Manish and Vikas, with help from bystanders. Vikas suffered an arm injury during the rescue.Police said three men were travelling in the Thar. Two fled while one was held by locals before police arrived. In her complaint, Meenakshi alleged the men had been drinking and that one of them abused her and Lakshita, claiming to be a police officer’s son who would face no consequences.Police initially registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving), 125(A) (endangering life) and 324(4) (mischief) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Shivaji Nagar police station. Investigation and CCTV review led to Yadav’s arrest two days later. “We are also verifying the driver’s medical examination and other evidence collected from the scene,” a police officer said.
