Madhubani: A celebration of art, culture and tradition was witnessed as the two-day Mithila Mahotsav began in Madhubani on Friday. The event, dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Mithila region, started on a grand note.DM Anand Sharma and SP Yogendra Kumar formally inaugurated the festival by cutting a cake and releasing balloons into the sky, symbolising joy and prosperity. The duo then inspected various stalls displaying Mithila’s renowned traditional arts, including the world-famous Madhubani paintings, handicrafts and local products that highlight the region’s artistic legacy. They also interacted with artists, encouraging and appreciating their efforts to keep these age-old traditions alive.The inaugural programme featured captivating performances by schoolchildren and local artists. Mesmerising folk songs, soulful music, energetic dances and engaging theatrical presentations enthralled the audience.Senior officials present on the occasion included deputy development commissioner Suman Prasad Sah, trainee IAS officer Virupaksh Vikram Singh, municipal commissioner Umesh Bharti, additional district magistrate Mukesh Ranjan, additional district magistrate (disaster) Santosh Kumar, district transport officer Rambabu, sub-divisional officer Chandan Jha, deputy superintendent of police Rashmi and district public relations officer Parimal Kumar, besides several other dignitaries.Organised jointly by the district administration and the art and culture department, the festival is expected to draw large crowds over the next two days with more performances, exhibitions and cultural programmes, including presentations by noted artists scheduled between March 20 and March 22 at the Watson School grounds.
