Nagpur: The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural police arrested two persons for allegedly planning to circulate counterfeit notes printed in the name of a fictitious ‘Children’s Bank of India’. The total face value of the seized fake currency bundles is Rs 8.65 crore, said police.Acting on a tip-off, a team on Thursday laid a trap along the Nagpur-Wardha highway between Asola and Sawangi area. The suspects were spotted travelling in a white car. When the police signalled the vehicle to stop, the driver allegedly sped away in a bid to escape. The team intercepted the car after a chase.The two occupants, Afroz Khan Jamirullah Khan, resident of Yavatmal, and Irshad Jumman Sheikh, resident of Wardha, were apprehended. A thorough search led to recovery of 2,300 bundles of counterfeit notes, including 1,500 bundles of Rs500 notes, 350 bundles of Rs200 notes, and 450 bundles of Rs 100 notes, totalling Rs 8.65 crore in fake currency.A case has been registered and both accused have been arrested.Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused covered the top layer of the bundles with genuine Indian currency notes to make them look authentic.The police also seized cash Rs5,600, the car valued at approximately Rs 2.50 lakh, and four mobile phones worth Rs 24,000. The total value of seized items stands at around Rs 3.48 lakh.Police Inspector Ankush Mane led the operation. Investigation is under way under senior superintendent of police Harssh A Poddar and additional superintendent of police Anil Mhaske.
