Gurgaon: A total of 2,709 EWS families were allotted flats in the city on Monday under the Chief Minister Housing Scheme, fulfilling their long-awaited dream of owning a house.Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive a 200 sq ft flat at a maximum cost of Rs 1.5 lakh. The units are located in group housing projects licensed by the department of town and country planning (DTCP) and developed by private builders, including Emaar, M3M, DLF, Vatika, Ireo, Sobha and Godrej.Haryana Urban Development Authority made the allotments at the Gurgaon University campus through an online lucky draw. It was held in the presence of the district nodal officer and additional deputy commissioner Sonu Bhatt, additional director (department of housing for all) Ruchi Singh Bedi and other officials.The district administration had set up bank help desks at the venue to assist the beneficiaries with loan processing. Bhatt said applicants who had deposited Rs 10,000 and were found eligible after verification were included in the draw. “In keeping with the principles of social justice, priority was given to widows, scheduled caste applicants and nomadic tribes,” he said.He added that the scheme goes beyond providing housing by enabling economically weaker families to live with dignity. “Today’s successful draw marks a significant milestone in offering stability and security to eligible families,” Bhatt said.A housekeeping worker, Rashmi, said she had spent years living in rented spaces. “I finally have a home of my own, making my life more stable and secure,” she said. Tailor Mohammad Wazir, a resident of Rajiv Nagar, said arranging permanent housing was always a struggle. With the allotment, he said his “children will now get an opportunity to live in a better and safer environment.”
