Chandigarh: Community policing initiatives undertaken by the Haryana Police to strengthen public participation are emerging as an effective model at the national level. Through these programmes, the police are not only strengthening trust between law enforcement and citizens but are also sensitising young people about law, social responsibilities and public safety.Director general of police Ajay Singhal on Monday said that community policing has become a vital pillar of modern policing, and Haryana Police is continuously introducing innovative initiatives in this direction. He stated that programmes such as the Student Police Cadet Corps, Cyber Rahgiri, Community Liaison Groups (CLG), Mitra Kaksh and Janata Darbar are helping the police directly engage with different sections of society.“These initiatives have significantly enhanced community participation in crime prevention while also promoting awareness among youth about the law and their social responsibilities,” he added.Under the Student Police Cadet Corps (SPCC) programme, students are being educated about police functioning, law and order, road safety, cybercrime awareness, the harmful effects of drug abuse and civic responsibilities.In 2025, a total of 7,362 students from 182 schools across Haryana actively participated in the programme, imbibing values of discipline, leadership and responsible citizenship. The initiative is playing a crucial role in shaping socially responsible youth.With the objective of providing multiple police services under one roof, Haryana Police has established ‘Mitra Kaksh’ facilities. At present, 19 Mitra Kaksh are operational in Rohtak and Karnal, offering 16 different police services through a single-window system. These centres provide services such as complaint registration, character verification, tenant verification and police clearance certificates. Thousands of cases were resolved swiftly through these facilities, bringing significant convenience to citizens.To tackle the rising threat of cybercrime, Haryana Police organises the Cyber Rahgiri programme on the first Wednesday of every month. Through this campaign, thousands of citizens are being sensitised about digital safety and informed about the Cyber Crime Helpline 1930, he said.To strengthen dialogue between police and the community, Community Liaison Groups (CLGs) have been constituted across the state. Currently, 24 CLGs are actively functioning in various districts of Haryana.These groups are playing an important role in resolving minor disputes at the local level. Between 2025 and January 2026, hundreds of complaints were resolved through CLGs, reducing the burden on the judicial system while promoting social harmony.At the beat level, policing is being strengthened by involving **community leaders, teachers and social organisations** in police initiatives. This collaborative approach is significantly improving community support in crime prevention.These initiatives by Haryana Police are not only strengthening **law and order in the state** but are also emerging as a **strong national model of participatory and community-based policing**.
