Gurgaon: Around 18 spa centres in Sector 90 were raided on Friday and authorities found eight of them running as a front for illegal activities.An officer said they found 30 women and 20 men on the premises at Sapphire Mall, and they are being questioned. The operation was carried out jointly by police, Haryana state commission for women and the district administration. The six-hour operation began around 10pm and continued till 3am and was headed by ACP Headquarters-I Abhilaksh Joshi, who is also the designated Special Police Officer under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.Haryana state commission for women chairperson Usha Priyadarshini, members of the commission and a duty magistrate were present during the operation.Electronic devices, documents and other material from the eight establishments were seized. Police are examining the seized material to establish the role of spa owners, managers, operators and other facilitators, and to ascertain whether the activities were part of a larger organised network.ACP Joshi said the operation was carried out after they received information about the illegal activities from the state commission for women.He said a case will be registered after completion of legal formalities and based on the evidence collected during the investigation.The preliminary proceedings were conducted by ACP Headquarters-I, while further investigation has been handed over to Kherki Daula police station.
