Kanpur: Police in Kanpur have registered a case of alleged rape and blackmail involving a 17-year-old girl, the daughter of a head constable, and taken two accused into custody, officials said late Sunday night.The girl, a resident of Kidwai Nagar, was staying in a hostel in Kakadev while preparing for NEET examination. During her stay, she became acquainted with a 17-year-old student from Siddharthnagar who was also living in Kakadev and preparing for a competitive exam, police said.According to the complaint, the accused called the girl to a hotel about a month ago on the pretext of celebrating his birthday. The victim alleged that she was given a cold drink laced with an intoxicating substance and later lost consciousness. She alleged that the accused raped her and recorded obscene photographs and videos.The victim further alleged that she was subsequently blackmailed with threats to make the content viral, and that fear of social stigma kept her from reporting the incident earlier. Police said the accused later sent an obscene video to his friend Ibrahim (19), a resident of Rawatpur.Investigators said the two accused allegedly pressured the girl and obtained Rs 20,000, which was transferred to Ibrahim’s bank account. After learning about the allegations, the girl’s father approached Kakadev police station and filed a complaint.Kakadev station in charge Dharmendra Kumar Ram said police found the allegations substantiated during preliminary investigation. “An obscene video was found in the girl’s mobile phone. Details have also emerged of Rs 20,000 being transferred to Ibrahim’s account. On the complaint, a case was registered and both accused were taken into custody,” he said.
