Kalyan: Seventeen days after an orthopaedic doctor was assaulted inside his consultation cabin at a private hospital in Kalyan East, Kolsewadi police arrested the 30-year-old accused, Vinit Jaywant Deshmukh, on Wednesday.Deshmukh was caught from Ulhasnagar and was produced before Kalyan court, which remanded him police custody till Thursday.The incident occurred on the night of August 23 at Bhanujyot Hospital. According to the police, Dr Yogendra Jaiswal (41) was attending to the accused’s father, Jaywant Deshmukh, who was undergoing treatment for a rib fracture. Vinit allegedly became aggressive and punched Dr Jaiswal when the latter asked him to speak politely while discussing his father’s treatmentThe assault was captured on the hospital’s CCTV cameras.Following the commotion, other hospital staff and relatives intervened to rescue the orthopaedic doctor.While Kolsewadi police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including voluntarily causing hurt, following protests by local medical associations, the accused had remained at large.“Based on technical surveillance and tipoffs, our team tracked down Vinit from Vithalwadi police station’s jurisdiction in Ulhasnagar and placed him under arrest on Wednesday,” said Nitin Pagar, senior police inspector from Kolsewadi police station.
