Calangute: A 14-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly abducted near her school at Calangute on the morning of Sept 29 after arriving for classes.Calangute police registered a kidnapping case on Wednesday following a complaint by the girl’s parents, who were accompanied by members of an NGO.The girl, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was residing with her family at Saligao. Police said her disappearance is being linked to that of a boy from West Bengal who is also reported missing. Police are investigating the connection. The incident has raised concerns among local activists over the safety of students in and around schools in Calangute.“It’s the duty of the Bal Rath staff to ensure students are safely reached to school. That such an incident took place at the gate of the school shows the lack of security for students,” panchayat member Prasad Shirodkar said.
