The parents had submitted residential documents to the taluka-level RTE admission committee at Rajgurunagar between March and May 2026 for admission to Class I under the RTE quota

Pune: Khed police have registered a case against 14 parents for allegedly submitting false or misleading residential documents to secure admissions for their children under the 25% Right to Education (RTE) quota in private schools in Khed taluka. The admissions of all 14 students were subsequently cancelled following a physical verification of the documents. The case was registered on Monday on a complaint filed by Khed group education officer Amol Jangle. The parents had submitted residential documents to the taluka-level RTE admission committee at Rajgurunagar between March and May 2026 for admission to Class I under the RTE quota. The students were admitted to Dr Vishwanath Karad World Peace School in Alandi Devachi and Podar International School in Ambethan. Of the 14 students, 10 had secured admission to the former and four to the latter.Police have registered the case under Sections 3(5), 318(4) and 336(3) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police inspector Subhash Chavan registered the case and initiated an investigation.Jangle said, “The state education department had constituted a committee to investigate irregularities in the RTE admission process for 2026-27. The committee scrutinised 58 applications from the two schools and carried out physical verification of the addresses submitted by applicants.”During the verification, officials found that the parents of 14 students were not residing at the addresses mentioned in their residential documents, according to the complaint. The authorities subsequently cancelled the admissions and recommended legal action against the concerned parents.Jangle said, “The parents used documents showing addresses where they did not actually reside, thereby misleading the admission authorities and obtaining RTE quota seats for their children.”The alleged irregularities are significant because schools receive govt reimbursement for students admitted under the RTE quota. The FIR states that the annual reimbursement for each student from Classes I to VIII is around Rs 1.41 lakh.Police officials said that they would investigate and establish how the documents were obtained and submitted and whether others were involved in the alleged irregularities.RTE Act reserves 25% of entry-level seats in eligible private unaided schools for children from disadvantaged and economically weaker sections. The verification process is intended to ensure that seats under the quota go to students who meet the eligibility criteria.
