Kanpur: Kalyanpur police on Thursday night registered a case against a car driver for allegedly hitting a 12-year-old student riding a bicycle outside his house on Wednesday evening, leaving him seriously injured. A video of the incident went viral on social media on Thursday evening.The case was registered on the complaint of the student’s father. Police said they seized the car based on CCTV footage and launched a search for the absconding driver.Priyanka Tiwari, a resident of Awas Vikas Kailash Bihar, said that at around 7 on Wednesday evening, her son was riding a bicycle outside the house. Hearing his scream, she rushed outside and found her son lying injured near a drain, she said. She took him to a private hospital and informed police on 112.Police examined footage from CCTV cameras installed around the scene. Based on the footage and the car number, police registered a case on the complaint of the student’s father Sandeep Tiwari and took the car into custody.In the investigation, the car was found to be registered in the name of Saurabh Suchari, a resident of Fatehpur. Late at night, police detained the driver’s younger brother Akhilesh alias Chhotu for questioning. Police are conducting raids in search of the driver and the car owner.DCP West SM Qasim Abidi said that a case has been registered on the complaint of the boy’s father. The car has been seized and raids are being conducted to trace the accused.
