Gurgaon: Twelve locations in the city have been identified as pollution hotspots.These locations are spread across major traffic corridors, residential and commercial areas and Bandhwari landfill.The hotspot mapping is intended to help identify the dominant pollution source at each location and fix responsibility for corrective action.A stakeholder meeting for a Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) exercise was held on Sept 9, following which the city’s pollution hotspots list was shared.The locations include Basai-Dwarka Expressway intersection, Baba Brahmanand Chowk, Leg 3 endpoint, Chintels Chowk in Sector 114, IFC Chowk in Sector 65, Sector 55-56 Chowk, Golf Course Extension Road near DLF Arbour in Sector 63, Bandhwari landfill, Radisson Hotel-NH-48 junction in Udyog Vihar, Sector 44, Udyog Vihar Phase V and Sector 57 — according to a CAQM (Commission for Air Quality Management) exercise to map areas facing high particulate pollution and identify the sources responsible.“Depending on the source, measures could include dust control, action against C&D violations, traffic management or enforcement against polluting industries,” a Haryana State Pollution Control Board official said.The exercise comes ahead of the winter season, when particulate pollution typically rises across the NCR.The exercise requires NCR regional offices to interact with the agencies concerned to identify hotspots linked to road dust, construction and demolition (C&D) activity, traffic and industries.Locations recording PM10 above 200 micrograms per cubic metre or PM2.5 above 80 micrograms per cubic metre are to be considered for hotspot identification.The exercise also seeks to bring the agencies responsible for different pollution sources into the process.GMDA, MCG and traffic police have been identified as the concerned agencies for the city locations, with some hotspots requiring joint action.GMDA has been assigned locations including Basai-Dwarka Expressway intersection, Baba Brahmanand Chowk and Chintels Chowk.MCG has been assigned the Leg 3 endpoint and Bandhwari landfill, while traffic police have been assigned NH-48 junction near Radisson Hotel, Sector 44, Udyog Vihar Phase V and Sector 57.IFC Chowk, Sector 55-56 Chowk and Golf Course Extension Road near DLF Arbour have been marked for involvement of both GMDA and traffic police.
