Prayagraj: The state government is all set to develop modern facilities at cattle shelter sites (gaushalas). The district administration has set up 12 standards for basic amenities at cattle shelter houses and plans are afoot to operate Prayagraj based cattle shelters with modern amenities.Chief Veterinary Officer (Prayagraj) Dr Shivnath Yadav, said that in accordance with directives from the Additional Chief Secretary, modern facilities are being developed across all 112 cattle shelters in the district. CVO explained that essential arrangements—such as sturdy sheds, fodder warehouses, clean drinking water, and medical facilities—will be developed. Initially, sheds will be constructed at the shelter sites according to the standardized design. Feeding troughs or mangers will be built to allow for the monitoring of fodder quality. Fodder warehouses with a capacity exceeding 1,000 quintals will be constructed at every shelter site. Furthermore, the sowing of fodder crops—such as Napier grass, cowpea (lobia), sorghum (jowar), and pearl millet (bajra)—will be ensured on pasture lands attached to the shelters under the ‘VB-G Ram Ji’ scheme. This will guarantee the availability of nutritious green fodder for the cattle throughout the year. CCTV cameras have been installed in all 112 gaushalas (cattle shelters) across the Prayagraj district, enabling monitoring from a control room located at the Vikas Bhawan. Instructions have also been issued to construct staff quarters having employees reside on the premises will ensure more organized operations.To boost the gaushalas’ revenue, biogas plants will be set up, alongside NADEP compost pits and vermicompost pits. Solar lights will be installed at all cattle shelter sites. Furthermore, training will be provided on utilizing biogas as fuel and using the resulting slurry as organic manure.
