Jind: In a unique Raksha Bandhan initiative, 101 girl students of a govt high school in Makhand village tied rakhis to trees and pledged to protect and care for them as part of the “Ek Rakhi Ped Ke Naam” campaign launched by Sarv Kalyan Manch Haryana.District president Subhash Dhigana said the campaign linked the festival’s message of protection with environmental conservation. He said protecting trees was a collective responsibility amid rising pollution and declining green cover.“Just as a sister ties a rakhi on her brother’s wrist and wishes for his happiness, prosperity and long life, every sister should also tie a rakhi to a tree and pledge to look after and protect it,” said Sheeshpal Shastri.The students took part enthusiastically and pledged to ensure the trees’ safety and upkeep. The initiative was launched following a call by organisation state president Naveen Kaushik.
