Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government’s faculty recruitment drive for state universities has drawn an overwhelming response, with 1,89,316 applications received for 1,523 teaching posts, indicating intense competition for academic jobs in the state.
The online application process for the recruitment of professors, associate professors, assistant professors and lecturers in 20 state universities concluded on Monday. Assistant professor posts accounted for the bulk of applications, attracting 1,66,070 candidates for 1,022 vacancies.
According to the commissionerate of higher education, 65,909 hard-copy applications had been received and 5,414 grievances registered by the close of the online submission window.
Among universities, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, received the highest number of applications for assistant professor posts at 25,330, followed by Sri Venkateswara University with 18,162 and Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) with 13,399.
The recruitment notification covers 1,022 assistant professor posts, 334 associate professor posts, 63 professor posts and 104 lecturer posts in RGUKT.
The last date for submission of hard copies of applications is June 22. The list of prima facie eligible and ineligible candidates will be published on June 29, while the final list of eligible candidates will be released on July 7 after disposal of grievances.
