Mandya: Mandya MLA Ravikumar Ganiga on Tuesday announced that the state govt has sanctioned Rs 70 crore for the comprehensive development of wards in the Kere Angala region of Mandya city, with several long-pending infrastructure projects being taken up in phases.During an inspection of ongoing works and a public interaction programme at KHB Colony, the MLA said the govt is committed to resolving civic issues that have remained unaddressed for decades. He noted that development works have already been carried out in KHB Colony, MUDA Layout and Vivekananda Nagar, while basic infrastructure neglected for nearly 25 years is now being prioritised through systematic funding.Ganiga said Rs 2.5 crore has been released for cleaning vacant sites, road works and underground drainage (UGD) in KHB Colony. The projects are expected to be completed within three months. Addressing the area’s chronic drinking water shortage, he said Rs 75 lakh has been released in the first phase, while Rs 1.2 crore will be sanctioned in the second phase to provide a permanent solution.The MLA said the govt has approved a Rs 10-crore road project through the State Highway Authority covering the stretch from the tax department office on Nagamangala Road to Melukote Road. With the tender process in its final stage, work is expected to begin within days.He also said Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned through the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam for road improvement and slab construction works in KHB Colony and Vivekananda Nagar. The tender process will be completed shortly, after which the projects will be taken up.Addressing recurring flooding in Bidi Colony, Ganiga said the first phase of retaining wall construction, estimated at Rs 10 crore, has been completed. The govt has released an additional Rs 5 crore for the second phase. With the tender process already completed, the bhoomi pooja will be held next week before work commences.Assess damage in rain-hit areasThe MLA visited Kodikoppalu village and nearby rain-affected areas on Tuesday to assess the damage caused by rainfall. He assured farmers of all possible assistance from the govt. During the visit, he inspected damaged agricultural fields, houses and public infrastructure, besides interacting with affected farmers and residents to understand the extent of their losses. In a gesture of support, he distributed financial assistance from his personal funds to 13 farmers who had suffered crop damage due to the rain.
