Mysuru: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is set to modernise the floodlighting system at the SDNR Wadiyar ground in Mysuru by replacing the existing metal floodlights with advanced LED sports lighting technology.The upgrade aims to bring the venue in line with international standards for professional cricket while improving energy efficiency and reducing maintenance costs.The new system has been designed to deliver superior illumination, providing over 3,000 lux on the pitch and more than 2,000 lux across the outfield. The enhanced lighting will ensure greater uniformity and visibility for players, match officials and spectators, while significantly improving television broadcast quality.Speaking to TOI, KSCA Mysore zone convener Srinivas Prasad said the state-of-the-art system has been tailored to meet the demands of modern cricket broadcasting. It supports high-definition (HD), ultra-high-definition (4K) and super slow-motion coverage through flicker-free lighting, high vertical illumination and superior colour rendering, ensuring crystal-clear visuals for television audiences.The upgrade will be carried out by a multinational company using its advanced LED sports lighting solution, integrated with intelligent DMX lighting control technology. The system will allow instant switching and programmable lighting effects before, during and after matches, enhancing the overall match-day experience for both players and spectators.Prasad said the new LED infrastructure is nearly 40% more energy-efficient than the existing metal floodlights. The upgrade is expected to substantially reduce electricity consumption and diesel usage while lowering long-term maintenance costs. He added that the project reflects KSCA’s commitment to adopting sustainable and environmentally responsible infrastructure.With world-class illumination, advanced broadcast compatibility and improved operational efficiency, the upgraded floodlighting system is expected to further strengthen the ground’s reputation as a premier venue for domestic and high-profile cricket tournaments in Karnataka.
