Thiruvananthapuram: The intelligence and enforcement wings of state goods and services tax department jointly detected tax evasion worth Rs 7.56 crore during inspections conducted on Sept 16 in the vehicle-parking services sector at railway stations across Keralam.Inspections were conducted at 69 locations, including the principal places of business, residences and additional business premises of 22 taxpayers providing vehicle-parking services on railway premises in the state.The inspections found that the turnover declared by the taxpayers in their returns was substantially lower than the actual turnover generated from the services. Transactions made using multiple QR codes were also detected. Prima facie, turnover suppression amounting to Rs 42 crore and tax evasion of Rs 7.56 crore were detected during the inspections.Information related to the business transactions of 13 taxpayers was collected from software systems, while details of the remaining taxpayers were gathered from books, registers and mobile chats. A detailed investigation into the matter is under way.The state GST intelligence wing has collected information on vehicle-parking facilities at more than 1,000 locations, including KSRTC premises, hospitals, malls and theatres. Inspections will be held at establishments suspected of tax evasion.Instances of tax evasion can be confidentially reported at inform.sgst@kerala.gov.in.State GST commissioner said the department would intensify investigations and action against establishments involved in tax evasion.
