T’puram: Cantonment Police have registered a suo motu case under non-bailable sections against Yuva Morcha activists in connection with the incident in which LSG minister K M Shaji’s vehicle was stopped at Vanross Junction in the capital on Wednesday night.The case was registered despite Shaji telling the police that he did not want a case to be registered. The police proceeded to register the case suo motu based on the circumstances surrounding the incident.Shaji was returning from the Secretariat to his official residence when Yuva Morcha activists stopped his official vehicle at Vanross Junction. The minister got out of the vehicle and attempted to leave the spot in an autorickshaw. However, the protesters also stopped the autorickshaw, following which Shaji walked away from the spot.The minister was travelling without a pilot or escort vehicle when the incident occurred.Speaking about the incident, Shaji said the protesters might have expected him to strongly resist their action, but he had instructed the police personnel accompanying him not to create any trouble.“They may have thought that I would put up strong resistance. However, I told the police officers accompanying me that there should not be any trouble,” Shaji said.Shaji also said there was no lapse on the part of the police in handling the incident.
