In a shocking turn of events in Patna’s Masaurhi locality, a quarrel over a buffalo resulted in tragedy as 22-year-old Sonu Kumar lost his life to gunfire. The conflict ignited when 70-year-old Vijendra Prasad allegedly claimed ownership of Sonu’s buffalo, leading to a violent clash.

Patna: A youth was shot dead following a dispute over a buffalo in Nizamat village under Dhanarua police station area of Masaurhi in Patna district on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Sonu Kumar (22), son of Bhushan Prasad.Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and admitted the youth to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. His body was sent to a govt hospital in Patna for the postmortem.Sonu’s family lodged an FIR in this regard.Kanhaiya Singh, SDPO-II of Masaurhi, who also visited the crime spot, said Sonu was allegedly shot by a 70-year-old man named Vijendra Prasad after an argument arose between the two. “Vijendra allegedly untied Sonu’s buffalo and took it, tying it in front of his house. When Sonu followed him to get back the animal, they had a heated argument and scuffle. The elderly man took out his pistol and opened fire, hitting him in the chest. The youth collapsed, while the accused fled from the spot, leaving his firearm,” he said.Singh said hearing the gunshot people gathered and Sonu was rushed to a nearby hospital by police, but he succumbed to his injuries. Forensic Science Laboratory teams visited the spot and collected evidence. Police also seized the pistol used in the crime. However, no empty bullet shell was recorded from the place. Police suspect that the bullet pierced the victim’s chest.The SDPO added: “Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused. Statement of the victim’s family will be recorded. Apart from the issue of buffalo, money dispute has also come to light.”
