In a dramatic turn of events in Muzaffarpur, a group of locals captured a young man suspected of stealing goats and decided to take matters into their own hands. They restrained him to a pole in Ahiyapur, an area grappling with an uptick in livestock theft.

Patna: A youth was thrashed by locals in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday over allegations of goat theft. Residents tied his hands and feet and beat him with sticks in the Ahiyapur police station area.Incidents of cattle and goat theft have reportedly increased in the locality in recent days. A goat was also stolen two days ago, which had already angered villagers. Police said raids are being carried out to identify and nab those involved in the assault.On Wednesday, locals allegedly spotted the youth attempting to flee with a goat. They caught him, tied him to a pole and thrashed him.The youth has been identified as a resident of Laxmi Chowk under Bamhapur police station area. He is the son of a retired agriculture officer. Police said the youth is addicted to smack and used to commit petty thefts to sustain his addiction.On receiving information, Dial 112 and Ahiyapur police reached the spot, where a large crowd had gathered. Police pacified the villagers and rescued the youth from the mob. He was later taken to SKMCH for treatment.Ahiyapur SHO Rohan Kumar said, “Some of the accused’s accomplices fled the spot during the incident. Raids are being conducted to arrest them.”
