NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly opened fire in the air and tried to flee when stopped by a head constable in east Delhi’s Trilokpuri. According to police, the incident took place around 2.25am on April 20 near a community building in Block-25. Head Constable Vikrant, who was passing through the area in his private vehicle, spotted a suspicious man carrying a firearm and stopped him for questioning. DCP (east) Rajeev Kumar said, “When challenged, the accused allegedly fired a round in the air and attempted to escape on a scooty. The constable chased and overpowered him single-handedly.” Police said an illegal country-made pistol, three live cartridges and a used cartridge were recovered from his possession, along with the scooty. The accused, identified as Asif (22), a resident of Trilokpuri, has previous criminal cases against him. A case has been registered at Kalyanpuri police station under sections of the Arms Act and BNS. Further investigation is underway.
