Gurgaon: Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday urged youngsters to take an active role in spreading awareness about drugs and reporting peddling activities.Saini, while flagging off a half marathon — organised on the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Haryana-Khel Yukt Haryana’ — said, “Every young person should take responsibility for making at least 10 other youngsters aware of the harmful effects of drugs. This resolve can soon become a mass movement.”More than 50,000 people took part in the marathon as Haryana stepped up its campaign against drug abuse, with the event seeking to connect sports and youth participation with the fight against narcotics.He said govt viewed the drug menace in the context of the future of Haryana’s youth and families, rather than as a political issue. Saini also ran alongside participants and administered an anti-drug pledge.The event featured 10km and 5km races, cultural performances, sand art and awareness displays.Monu Kumar and Sarita Pal won the men’s and women’s 10km races respectively.Deputy commissioner Abhishek Meena, SP Hemender Meena and other senior officials were present.Saini honoured the winners with cash prizes and certificates. The top three finishers in the 10km race received Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50,000 and Rs 21,000 respectively.
