T’puram: A joint operation by Kallambalam police and district anti-narcotic special action force (Dansaf) led to the arrest of a youth for allegedly possessing MDMA on Saturday.The accused was identified as Sathish (30), a native of Vadasserikonam. Police seized around one gram of MDMA from his possession during the operation.According to police, Sathish had been under surveillance by the mufti squad for some time following intelligence inputs about his alleged involvement in drug trafficking. Acting on specific information, police and Dandsaf team intercepted the accused and carried out a search, leading to the seizure of the narcotic substance.Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was allegedly planning to sell the drugs to school students in the area. Police said the operation was part of intensified anti-drug drives being carried out across the district to curb the spread of narcotic substances, especially among youngsters.A case has been registered under relevant provisions of NDPS Act. The accused was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
