T’puram: Poojappura Police and Dansaf team on Wednesday arrested a 27-year-old man with around 14g of MDMA at Mudavanmugal. The arrest was made as part of Operation Toofan.The police said the operation was conducted based on specific information received by Dansaf team. Acting on the tip-off, the team conducted an inspection in the Mudavanmugal area and intercepted the suspect. During the search, police allegedly recovered around 14g of MDMA from his possession.The accused was identified as Sharoon of Vallakkadavu. He was taken into custody and subsequently arrested. The police said further legal proceedings were under way.The operation was conducted on the directions of Thiruvananthapuram City Police commissioner Arul R B Krishna,as part of efforts to strengthen action against drug trafficking and the circulation of synthetic narcotics in the city.The police said the seizure was significant as MDMA is a potent synthetic drug that has been increasingly detected in cases involving youngsters. The police are also probing the source of the seized drug and whether the accused was involved in supplying it to others.The commissioner said inspections and enforcement against narcotics would be intensified in the coming days.
