Mysuru: A polytechnic graduate was killed on the spot after being hit by a speeding car in front of his college in Nanjangud on Monday.The incident triggered a flash protest, with students blocking the Mysuru-Nanjangud highway near Hullahalli Circle for some time. They accused the authorities, including police, of failing to take adequate measures to prevent accidents near the college.Prethesh Jain, 19, a student of JSS Polytechnic, Nanjangud, died in the accident. He was the son of Dharmendra Babu and Chaya of Chamarajanagar. Having completed his studies in the mechatronics department, Prethesh had reportedly visited the college on Monday to collect his certificates ahead of a job interview.According to police, after lunch, he was crossing the road when he was struck by a speeding car. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.Angered by the death of Prethesh, JSS Polytechnic students came out of their classrooms and staged a road blockade on the busy Mysuru-Nanjangud road. They demanded higher compensation for the victim’s family and called for the installation of barricades in front of the college to regulate traffic and reduce vehicle speeds.The car driver has been arrested, and Nanjangud Traffic police have initiated legal proceedings in connection with the accident.
