Kanpur: A 22-year-old youth was killed after an unidentified speeding vehicle hit his motorcycle from behind on a highway in Kanpur’s Maharajpur police station area on Wednesday morning.According to police, the deceased, Altaf, a resident of Lahaurpur, worked as a motorcycle mechanic at an agency in Ruma.Police said Altaf had left for work at around 8am when a speeding vehicle rammed into his motorcycle from behind. His motorcycle was dragged for about 10 metres, while he suffered a severe head injury.He was rushed to a community health centre in Sarsaul, where doctors declared him dead. Police later sent the body for post-mortem examination.Maharajpur SHO Janardan Singh said CCTV footage from cameras installed along the highway was being examined to identify the offending vehicle. Police teams have been deployed to trace it.Further action will be taken after a case is registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Altaf’s family, he added.
