Srinagar, Feb 23: The youth wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Monday attempted to march towards the office of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Srinagar as part of a planned protest, but the march was stopped by police.

Led by Youth President Srinagar Yasir Mandoo, Youth Congress leaders and workers had assembled at the JKPCC office on M.A. Road around 2:30 PM following a call for a peaceful “BJP Office Gherao.”

However, police personnel prevented the procession from proceeding and confined
the protesters within the PCC office premises. Addressing the gathering, Yasir Mandoo alleged that the administration acted in a partisan manner.

He claimed that while the BJP had previously been allowed to reach its office without hindrance, similar cooperation was not extended to the Youth Congress during their
peaceful protest.

Senior Youth leader Waleed Karra also spoke on the occasion, criticising the BJP over what he termed a recent “shame” at an AI Summit, alleging that the incident had brought embarrassment to the nation. He further claimed that such actions reflect a pattern of conduct that undermines national dignity.

Despite being stopped by the police, Youth Congress leaders reiterated their commitment to continue raising issues they described as being in the public and national interest through democratic and peaceful means.

Among those present were Mohammad Shafi, Saqib Sultan, Syed Iqbal, Mujtaba Dewan, Basharat Bashir, Owais Ahmad, Sameer Bhat, Mussadiq Mehraj, and several other youth leaders and workers.
