Kolkata: An argument between two groups of youngsters at a pub on Ho Chi Minh Sarani early on Saturday ended in a violent fight over 10km away near a cafe in Kankurgachhi, leaving a 23-year-old youth in hospital with deep cuts on his neck, throat, abdomen and chest. The investigation was initiated after the victim lodged a complaint at the Phoolbagan PS. Trouble started after the victim, along with two companions, arrived at the Ho Chi Minh Sarani pub, located under the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station. Around 3:50 am, another patron, who was accompanied by a woman, allegedly made some provocative and objectionable remarks at the victim, leading to an altercation between the two groups. The bouncers at the pub immediately stepped in and separated the groups to prevent a fight but the dispute ostensibly remained unresolved.Shortly, the two groups arranged to meet at Kankurgachhi. “This confrontation on the road quickly turned physical. While the accused man rained punches and blows on the victim, his accompanying woman produced a sharp object and attacked the victim, slashing the right side of his neck and abdomen repeatedly,” police said. “The victim initially mistook the injuries for scratches but severe bleeding soon exposed the depth of the wounds.” Both the assailants immediately fled the area.During this clash, the accused also allegedly snatched a gold chain from the victim’s neck but a portion of the chain broke off and fell onto the pavement. Police later recovered this piece while collecting evidence from the spot. The victim’s friends took him to MCH, where he was treated for the deep cuts and advised bed rest at home.
