Shivamogga: Jayanagar police have arrested a youth Manikanta on charges of torching two bikes.Manikanta and a local woman had been in a relationship for two years before their eventual breakup. Following the separation, friction continued between the two . In late 2025, the woman’s family fixed her marriage with Antony Raj, and their engagement took place last Nov.Unhappy with the wedding, Manikanta repeatedly harassed the woman’s family and threatened her brother with dire consequences if the marriage was not called off.On the night of Aug 30, at approximately 11pm Manikanta reportedly arrived at the woman’s home while Antony Raj was present. He created a scene outside, shouted at the family members, and issued death threats before leaving. Later that night, around 2am, petrol was poured on two motorcycles parked outside the house and set on fire. Neighbours spotted the flames and raised an alarm, prompting family members to rush out and extinguish the blaze with water. The perpetrator was seen fleeing the spot as neighbours gathered.The fire completely destroyed two vehicles belonging to Anthony causing an estimated loss of Rs 60,000. Based on the complaint filed for harassment, threats, and arson, the Jayanagar police registered a case.
