Kolkata: Former Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee condemned Delhi Police’s detention of Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday, calling the move “conduct of a fascist regime that cannot tolerate a voice it can’t control.”“Abhijeet Dipke was detained for holding up the Indian national flag. Let that sink in. In independent India, our youth are being detained for peacefully asserting their democratic rights. This is nothing short of an undeclared emergency. A govt that fears dissent is now trying to intimidate an entire generation into silence,” she said on X.“Abhijeet, Ashutosh, Saurav — you represent the courage, conscience and aspirations of India’s youth. You cannot silence an entire generation by suppressing its voice,” she added.“Your Didi stands firmly with you. No intimidation, no detention and no abuse can crush the spirit of democracy. Wake up India! This fight is for democracy, freedom and the right to dissent will continue,” she added.Banerjee herself was detained by the Delhi Police during an earlier round of protests.
