Gorakhpur: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the city’s fifth Kalyan Mandapam on Saturday, further expanding affordable community infrastructure for lower and middle-income families, the information department said.The initiative, aimed at providing budget-friendly venues for weddings and other social functions, is part of the state govt’s inclusive development push. Within a year, four such facilities have already been opened in different wards of the city, offering a cost-effective alternative to expensive private banquet halls.

The new Kalyan Mandapam, constructed in Bichhia under the supervision of the Gorakhpur Development Authority, has been built at a cost of Rs 2.47 crore across 1,120 square metres. Designed as a convention centre, it can host up to 300 guests and is equipped with a spacious hall, kitchen, storage rooms, separate toilets for men and women, clean premises and drinking water facilities.Officials said the project was conceptualised nearly two years ago, when the CM directed the GDA and municipal corporation to create affordable alternatives for economically weaker sections. Funds were also arranged through the CM’s MLA quota.Earlier, Kalyan Mandapams were inaugurated in Khorabar, Surajkund, Manbela and Rapti Nagar Extension. More such facilities are currently under construction in Jungle Benimadhav, Basharatpur, Nakaha No. 2, Mahadev Jharkhandi (Tukda No. 2) and Semra.
