Varanasi: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who arrived in Varanasi on a two-day visit on Tuesday, will on Wednesday launch two major welfare initiatives for govt school students and teachers, including the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for around 1.1 crore students and the ‘Chief Minister Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme’ providing cashless treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh.On Tuesday, the CM offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and later attended the wedding ceremony of Uttar Pradesh minister Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’s’ son.After an overnight stay at the Circuit House, Yogi will launch the two schemes at the DDU Trade Facilitation Centre on Wednesday.Under the ‘Chief Minister Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme’, cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh will be provided to 12,407 eligible teachers, Shikshamitras, Anudeshaks, and other teaching and non-teaching staff of 1,145 Basic and Secondary Education Department schools in Varanasi. The scheme aims to relieve teachers and education personnel of financial stress during the treatment of serious illnesses while ensuring access to quality healthcare, enabling them to focus on their role in shaping students’ futures.The Chief Minister will also launch the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for students of the state’s council schools. Under the scheme, funds will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of the guardians of around 1.10 crore students across Uttar Pradesh, including 1,54,634 students from Varanasi. Each eligible student’s guardian will receive Rs 1,200 through DBT to support educational expenses.After launching the schemes, the CM will leave from the Police Line helipad and depart for Vindhyachal in Mirzapur.
